It will destroy any players capability of doing so (especially on hardcore mode) without playing this game 12 hours a day which the vast majority of us cannot do. ![]() The game is built around being able to do these things despite what any 12 hour a day streamer andy tells you as most of them play hardcore for viewership and hasnt touched any of these late game contents without dying instantly.įorcing Diablo 4 into a short 3 month seasonal structure will force the average and even more dedicated player into creating one class that tries to accomplish all feats of endgame. And it will retain its playerbase without needing short seasons the same way Diablo 2 retained its playerbase. It is meant for 6 month long seasons (if there is a mid season battle pass update so be it) and not a ladder/season-centric focus. It’s endgame plays like Diablo 2 except with more enhanced features. That is how the game is meant to be played taking on and implementing the character progression and endgame that Diablo 2 had. Though at max level your first character that you make is only going to be able to accomplish some and not all of these objectives as the game is fundamentally in skill-tree-separate class design emulating of Diablo 2. And having one level 100 character that can accomplish some of these things does make it easier to make an alt through item trading via discord (something that is already taking place on trade discord now with more intense players). Pvp isn’t as good until you are max level, it is impossible to kill Echo of Lilith before level 100, and you cannot truly progress high end 75+ nightmare dungeons until you are max level. I have played a ton of Diablo 2 mods and trust me not possible or worth it.Īnd all of the actual endgame activity in Diablo 4 doesn’t truly take place until you have fully progressed to level 100. Not all classes are good at everything, nor should they be, and any attempt to counter this fundamental aspect of the game will probably be extremely difficult and probably game ruining. The wizard for example is good at pvp and high tier dungeon farm but struggles against Lilith. For example the melee/tb rogue and hota barb are stronger pvp characters and the rogue lillith killer where as the hota barb is a high 80+ nm dungeon tier farmer. There are certain class/character builds that are best suited for different activities. And respectively the ladder seasons were 6 months long as opposed to 3 with much less focus upon them other than a few good seasonal runewords.ĭiablo 4 emulates this aspect of Diablo 2 in foundational/fundamental design (good on you blizz devs for doing this). Not fully restarting the game seasonally and focusing on a singular character purposed “journy” like common arpgs like Path of Exile or Lost Ark or whatever. The game had replay value based on making different purposed alts that together helped the creation of more different purposed alts. After this character was made you would then farm gear using this character to create either an uber farming smiter paladin/kick sin to farm the hardest bosses in the game for the sacred hellfire torch or annihilus charms, or farm gear for pvp builds to thus duel in the bloodmoor. Later once you farmed enough gear/wealth you would progress to a different farming character such as a lightning sorceress hammerdin or a wind druid or a trap assassin that utilize enigma and other high tier gear to farm chaos sanctuary effectively. Usually you would start as a blizzard sorceress as that gave you early acess to teleport although limiting you to farming Mephisto. Unlike Path of Exile which is a one character/build suits all or most content, Diablo 2’s separate skill tree per class system means that some builds naturally will be better than others at performing different feats. In Diablo 2 the focus of the game was to create an ultimate gear farming character, an ultimate endgame boss farming character, and a few pvp characters of your liking to duel in the bloodmoor. Also both games are grindy and are not really focused on “the journy” like many rpg games rather the absolute endgame of being max level or having the max gearing potential. Both games are very dark in nature and are not for the weak hearted. This is needed to be said and promoted.ĭiablo 4 has reached such a vast popularity I believe mainly because it is stylized like Diablo 2 in both its feel/aesthetic and it its gameplay experience. ![]() In this post I will go over why Diablo 4 has had the success it has and why 3 month seasonal content will absolutely destroy this success on a fundamental/foundational level.
